Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a treatment?
 |
A brief history is taken prior to
the massage.
|
 |
During the massage, which may last
for an hour, a general base oil or lotion may be used.
This normally soaks into the skin quite quickly but
may leave traces of oil on the skin after the massage.
|
 |
You may occasionally feel some post-treatment
soreness but this will normally disappear after a day
or two. Don’t worry about this - it is usually a sign
that the treatment is having a positive effect.
|
How often should I have Sports Massage?
 |
As often as you like (provided that
you are not suffering from any condition for which
massage is contra-indicated - ask if in doubt). Some
people find that a weekly massage helps to control
their stress levels, while others find that a maintenance
treatment every few weeks works well.

but the client fails to attend the full fee for the
session will be payable.
|
 |

least 24 hours prior to the date and time then this
fee will be waived.

Is there a governing body?
Until January 2002 anyone could set up as
a sports massage practitioner whether they were qualified
or not as there was no single governing body to regulate
sports massage courses or sports massage practitioners.
To resolve this situation the National Sports
Medicine Institute of the United Kingdom gave funding to
create the Sports Massage Association (SMA). The Sports
Massage Association acts as a main governing body, in order
that you may find a qualified, approved sports massage practitioner.
The Sports Massage Association maintains the
standards for sports massage practitioners and sports massage
training organisations. This has provided regulation and
a National Register for sports massage practitioners.
